Hamilton and District

Events

On Thursday 18th September, we celebrated our 15th Anniversary in St John's Church Centre. Alice Somerville, Chairperson, welcomed members and invited guests to the event. There were two members from East Kilbride u3a and our two u3a Council Members for Scotland, Liz Ervine and George Cleland. Apologies were received from Biggar and Lanark u3as, Christine Calder from Seniors Together and Provost Margaret Cooper. Alice went on to give a brief description of how Hamilton & District u3a came into existence.

After a few words from Liz Ervine, the cake was cut by Alice accompanied by two previous chair people, Catriona Mason and Lorna Kinghorn.

The entertainment for the afternoon was provided by three very talented pupils from Hamilton Grammar, Paige, Fiona and Janelle accompanied by Mr Steven Crawford, Head of Music. They played pieces on piano, violin, trumpet and saxophone to the delight of the audience.

Members were then served with an afternoon tea in a box comprising sandwiches, a scone with jam and cream and traybakes and the celebration cake was cut and distributed. Tea and coffee was served by our tea ladies, Anne Perry and Anne Hunter. There was time for members to chat to one another and share their summertime stories.

Alice thanked all who had been involved in preparing for the event. As people were leaving for home, many expressed how much they had enjoyed the afternoon and appreciated how much work had gone in to make it a special occasion.
